Intermittent Claudication

What is Intermittent Claudication?
This is a symptom that describes muscle pain on mild exertion (ache, cramp, numbness or sense of fatigue), classically in the calf muscle, which occurs during exercise, such as walking, and is relieved by a short period of rest.
The underlying cause of intermittent claudication can be atherosclerosis (calcification) of the leg arteries. This prevents the blood from flowing into the calf muscles, generating pain on exercise.
Treatment is aimed at restoring blood flow to the muscles by medical or with surgical interventions, like angioplasty or bypass surgery.
